I knew of CBRE’s excellent reputation and applied for a job posted on the Internet. I studied law at university but was looking for a more client-facing, sales role. During the first two years at CBRE I was leasing small and medium-sized premises and learnt a great deal. I had to learn how to be my own profit centre, how to follow each client requirement step-by-step from the initial search for premises to the final choice, and how to negotiate leases through to the close.
Selling to occupiers is a more in-depth process where each deal involves taking care of legal, technical, tax and investment issues. Knowledge of urban planning and tax laws is particularly important so I need to keep constantly informed of the frequent changes in regulations.
I have now established a role for myself in this rapidly expanding service, which has a tightly knit team. We are taking advantage the competitive advance CBRE has in this field.
